Hungary keeper signs for Palace

Crystal Palace have signed Hungary goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly after Nico Vaesen opted to return to Birmingham.

Kiraly, 28, who has won more than 50 international caps, will join Iain Dowie's Premiership newcomers on a free from German club Hertha Berlin.

He has had to overcome a personal crisis after losing his first-team place earlier this year. He said: "The last six months have not been easy. After Hertha's poor first half to last season, I did not want to get up in the mornings. I felt burned out and empty."

Kiraly will replace Belgian Vaesen, who turned his back on First Division play-off winners Palace to go back to Birmingham for the sake of his family.
