Hughes waits for test results

13 April 2012

Wimbledon midfielder Michael Hughes faces an anxious wait after undergoing a second scan on his injured ankle.

Hughes was hurt in a tackle with Palace full-back Curtis Fleming on Saturday and was taken to hospital for x-rays.

But the size of the swelling prevented any conclusive results so the Northern Ireland international has had more tests to determine the seriousness of the damage.

Manager Terry Burton said: "He gives us a natural footballing ability as he can create things from nothing and for us to lose him is a big blow."

Swedish midfielder Hakan Mild is expected to take Hughes's place for tonight's visit of Watford. It will be Mild's first appearance for two months, having been out with a groin injury. Striker Neil Shipperley returns from suspension.

Wimbledon's game against Crewe next Tuesday has been postponed to make way for their FA Cup replay against Everton.
