Hughes looking for 'top job'

12 April 2012

Blackburn boss Mark Hughes has set his heart on the "top jobs" in management amid reports he is to be head-hunted by Manchester City.

Rovers are reported to have received an official approach from representatives of City owner Thaksin Shinawatra and must now decide whether to allow the former Manchester United striker to talk to their Barclays Premier League rivals.

Speaking to the Daily Mail in an interview conducted before the link to City emerged, the ex-Wales boss said: "It's my ambition to go as far as my ability will allow me to, just as I did as a player."

He added: "I wasn't the best, I had limitations, but my attitude took me to Manchester United, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Chelsea - some of the top clubs in Europe."

"That approach still holds true as a manager. If my ability allows me to go on and progress and get top jobs then all is well and good.

"I'm not someone who accepts mediocrity."
