Norwich, who started above the relegation zone knowing a win keeps them up, go 1-0 behind at Fulham

Southampton soar into the 'Safety Spot' after an own goal from Manchester United's John O'Shea at a corner.

United equalise with a Darren Fletcher header. Although the Saints are now level with Norwich on points, their goal difference is better Palace's chances hit serious setback when Charlton score.

Delia Smith's Norwich are toast after a Zat Knight half-volley puts Fulham 3-0 up.

Palace equalise with a superb Dougie Freedman lob putting them level on points with the Saints and just one goal behind.

The turning points start when Geoff Horsfield puts West Brom 1-0 ahead against Portsmouth and catapults them from bottom straight into the 'Safety Spot'.

Southampton's challenge collapses after Ruud van Nistelrooy puts United 2-1 up.

Andy Johnson converts penalty and Palace are in pole position and just 20 minutes from safety.

Agony for Palace as Fortune equalises for Charlton with a header. Huge cheers are heard at the Hawthorns.

Southampton and Norwich know they are down but West Brom secure a 2-0 victory and the players wait on the pitch for the score to filter through from The Valley.

Palace draw, sparking wild celebrations at The Hawthorns, where the pitch is soon lost beneath a sea of celebrating supporters. Elsewhere the long, miserable journey home begins for fans of the relegated teams.
