Hot-shot Gerrard's enjoying high-life with Liverpool

Steven Gerrard is hoping to recreate the form he has recently shown with Liverpool when he plays for England against Slovkia on Saturday.

The midfielder has scored six goals in his last three games, including a hat-trick against Aston Villa on Sunday.

He has not played for his country since the 3-1 win in Belarus last October but he said: "I'm on a high. Things have been going really well at the club. My last performance for England I was really happy with. I was under a slight pressure before that game to put in a good performance.

"I missed a few games with injury since then but I've found my form quickly after the latest hamstring problem and at the moment I'm full of confidence."

Liverpool have narrowed the gap behind leaders Manchester United to one point, but Gerrard insists he is now focused on England and is not thinking about the Premier League title race.

"It's easy enough to re-focus," he said. "We're with England now and the big club games will have to wait."

David Beckham would set a new record for the highest number of caps for an outfield player should he be involved on Saturday and Gerrard paid tribute to the midfielder.

"It's an unbelievable record to have," Gerrard said. "Let's hope he does break it - he deserves to. He's been a fantastic servant to his country."
