Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino and team-mate Dele Alli revealed that a devastated Heung-min Son was crying so much in the dressing room that he ‘couldn’t even lift his head’ at full-time of Sunday’s draw with Everton.

The South Korean was sent off following an incident which saw Everton midfielder Andre Gomes sustain a serious leg injury in the second half .

Son, chasing back down the left flank, caught the Portuguese midfielder with a late tackle from behind and the momentum sent Gomes hurtling into Tottenham right-back Serge Aurier.

It was quickly apparent that the 27-year-old was in serious trouble after appearing to sustain a horrendous leg injury, with players swiftly calling for medical attention.

Son was clearly distraught in the aftermath, and after initially appearing to pull the yellow card out of his pocket, referee Martin Atkinson brandished the red card to the Tottenham forward and he headed down the tunnel.

"[I] didn’t want to look too much at what happened,” Dele Alli told Sky Sports when asked about the incident. “I want to send best wishes.

"Son is devastated and in tears. It’s not his fault. Son is one of nicest people you’ve ever met. He can’t even lift his head up, he’s crying so much.

Mauricio Pochettino added: “We feel very sorry. It’s a very bad situation. It’s very bad luck how he landed. We can only send our best wishes to him.

“It’s not about football, it’s important that he is okay. We feel devastated, it was so, so difficult. Son is devastated. He was very confused. It was difficult to keep calm. It was no intentional. It was so, so bad luck."
