Hayter's hat-trick record

14 April 2012

Substitute James Hayter scored the fastest hat-trick in Football League history last night when Bournemouth thrashed 10-man Wrexham 6-0.

Hayter struck three times within two minutes and 20 seconds of coming on in the 84th minute of last night's Second Division game.

He beat the two-and-a-half minute effort by Jimmy Scarth, of Gillingham, against Leyton Orient in November 1952.

Bournemouth manager Sean O'Driscoll said: 'James missed our match at Brighton at the weekend because his wife was giving birth and he has now made up for lost time. The lads on the bench said I should have sent him on earlier!'
