Haunted Hoddle's mission

Adrian Curtis13 April 2012

Glenn Hoddle is still haunted by his last visit to Tranmere.

Hoddle was in charge of the Southampton team which led 3-0 at Tranmere in the fifth round of the FA Cup last season, only to lose 4-3.

John Aldridge has since been replaced as manager of Tranmere by Dave Watson and they are in the Second Division but Rovers have lost only once at home this season.

To add to Tottenham's problems, defenders Goran Bunjevcevic, Gary Doherty and Steve Carr will again be missing at Prenton Park tonight, along with cup-tied Dean Richards.

Hoddle's fears are compounded by the fact that Tottenham lost their last match in uncannily similar circumstances - 5-3 to Manchester United after leading 3-0 at half-time.

"I have my own particular ghost to lay at Tranmere," said Hoddle. "But the game last season was actually one of the most enlightening moments I've experienced in football. This was especially so because the players then went eight games without conceding a goal.

"We have got to approach tonight's game with the right mental and positive attitude. We need to do that after what happened against United."
