Hatters in tatters as Blackwell says: I quit

Luton boss Kevin Blackwell could quit after the FA Cup replay at Liverpool next week — taking his backroom staff with him.

The former Leeds boss, along with coaches John Carver and Sam Ellis, issued a statement yesterday, announcing they will will leave after the League One club's home match with Bournemouth on February 9.

But Sportsmail understands Blackwell feels so let down by the break-up of his team that he will go sooner if a replacement can be found.

Luton were docked 10 points in November after going into administration and are facing FA charges over payments to agents. Administrators have sold skipper Chris Coyne to Colchester and Wolves expect midfielder David Edwards to sign for them this morning.

Blackwell said: 'What really upsets me is that we will have 6,700 fans travelling to Anfield believing we can cause an upset.

'Yet, after what has happened this week, I don't even know what sort of team I can put out.

'We had a meeting and received assurances that no one would be leaving before the replay.

'A day later, David Edwards was on his way and others have followed since.

'It seems I am managing the club in name only. The sale of players is beyond me, I can't bring any in and I don't even have any say over valuations. Enough is enough, and I have told the administrator I will stay until the Bournemouth game. It would be wrong just to walk out, but I should be allowed to leave with some sort of dignity.'
