Harris dedicates win to Harford

14 April 2012

Neil Harris dedicated Millwall's 2-0 win over Wigan to the memory of Ray Harford.

The Lions coach and former Queens Park Rangers manager died on Saturday, aged 58, after a lengthy battle with lung cancer.

Striker Harris, who has overcome testicular cancer to resume his playing career, said: "Of course they were different illnesses but it makes me realise how lucky I am.

"Ray meant a lot to the players, he was a lovely guy who everyone held in very high regard. He was also a very talented coach, the best we have ever worked with. I want to dedicate the win to Ray's family, hopefully it can bring a bit of light to what is a very dark time for them."

Harris urged team-mates in the changing room before Saturday's game to "win it for Ray" and they duly obliged with goals from Dennis Wise and Tim Cahill.

Before the kick-off at The Den a minute's silence was held in honour of Harford.
