Harris completes Featherstone move

12 April 2012

Dual-code international Iestyn Harris completed his move from Bradford to Featherstone on Thursday when he signed a two-year contract with the National League One club.

The 32-year-old former Wales and Great Britain stand-off will be a part-time player with Rovers but will also work in the club's public relations and marketing department and take up a mentoring role with their young players.

Harris, who will shortly start a business degree, will also assist new head coach Daryl Powell off the field and fulfil his recent appointment as an assistant to new Wales coach John Dixon.

The former Leeds and Bradford skipper turned down a move to Dixon's Celtic Crusaders, which would have enabled him to remain in Super League, and admitted the appointment of Powell was a factor behind his decision.

"I spoke to Celtic Crusaders and it was a really good option but, when I met with Daryl, I really believed this was the right option for my future," he said.

"I played with Daryl at Leeds and I know his ability as a coach. I'm still feeling really fresh and I'm looking forward to two more years playing. I still feel I've a lot to give.

"The most important thing is the playing side of things but hopefully over the two years there will be things to do on the coaching side."
