Harmison facing scan

14 April 2012

England paceman Steve Harmison has revealed he will have a scan to assess the extent of his side problem after the final Test against Pakistan.

Harmison has been troubled by soreness in his side and lower back during the match at The Oval and admits he is concerned.

"I'm due to have a scan straight after the game and I won't know for sure what the problem is until then," Harmison told the Mail on Sunday. "I cannot say for certain whether I will be fit for the one-day series but I want to get to the bottom of the problem because it is hacking me off."

Harmison took four wickets in Pakistan's first innings but has generally struggled throughout the match, which has come at the end of a difficult summer.

Harmison missed the Test series against Sri Lanka and struggled in the one-day matches that followed. He returned a man-of-the-match performance in the second Test against Pakistan but then began to suffer problems in his side.

He added: "While the soreness in my side has never got so bad that I felt I had to stop bowling, something is not right and it has got worse as the game has progressed."

England are due to name their squad for the forthcoming one-day series against Pakistan on Wednesday. The England and Wales Cricket Board will assess Harmison's situation after the current match.
