Hamilton to follow Alonso example

12 April 2012

Lewis Hamilton will, for once, look to old adversary Fernando Alonso for inspiration ahead of Sunday's French Grand Prix.

The Spaniard endured his own problems at the Circuit de Nevers a year ago while driving for McLaren, suffering a gearbox problem in qualifying that resulted in him starting from 10th on the grid, but he clambered into the points by claiming seventh.

Hamilton's concern this weekend surrounds a 10-place grid penalty imposed after his mistake in Montreal 11 days ago, but he said: "Fernando is absolutely an inspiration for me this weekend. When you look at his performance last year, he had a great race despite lots of different problems."

He added: "He still had a good finish and took some points, and that is what I'm aiming for this weekend, but it's going to be very tough.

"Anything, though, can happen in these races, as we've seen this year. They've been up and down, a real surprise.

"We will wait and see, but I will keep my fingers crossed and do the best job I can."
