Hair was 'guessing' - Hughes

Umpire Darrell Hair was "guessing" when he punished Pakistan for ball-tampering, according to a key witness at captain Inzamam-ul-Haq's disciplinary hearing.

Inzamam, who is responsible for the whole team's actions, was on Thursday cleared of a charge of ball-tampering at an International Cricket Council hearing at The Oval.

Simon Hughes, who was asked to analyse the ball during the hearing in London, wrote in the Daily Telegraph: "There was no hard evidence of ball-tampering. The problem was Hair was guessing, using the flimsiest evidence. The marks on the ball were not blatant enough for the drastic measures Hair took."
