Gallantree into London final

Becky Gallantree reached her first global 3metre springboard final at the FINA World Cup in London this morning.

Gallantree continued her recent career-best form to take seventh with a score of 315.30 - just below the personal best she set in the British Diving Cup last month.

The 27-year-old Leeds diver had been third with two rounds to go and ahead of world champion Wu Minxia.

"It's my first world final on three metre so I am chuffed to get that," she said.

"I was pleased with my position. There are still improvements I could make, but overall I was really pleased."

Yesterday Gallantree booked Great Britain an Olympic springboard place by reaching today's semi-final at the Olympic Aquatics Centre.

She will, however, have to qualify herself for a second Olympics at the British Championships in June where she will go up against promising teenagers Hannah Starling, who missed today's action by a single place, and Alicia Blagg.

"They are very, very talented. As they improve that sort of spurs me on to improve," she said. "I don't want them to catch me."

This afternoon Pete Waterfield returns to the pool in the individual platform after taking seventh alongside Tom Daley in last night's synchro final.

His Southampton team-mate Max Brick, a former synchro partner of Daley, is also in action.
