Frank Lampard says Chelsea have no time to hold an inquest into their collapse at Sheffield United as Champions League qualification hangs in the balance.

Lampard admitted Saturday’s insipid 3-0 defeat at Bramall Lane was one of his worst days as Chelsea manager.

Defensively the Blues were shambolic and a furious Lampard questioned the mentality of his players after they were bullied by a well-organised side.

Manchester City’s successful appeal against their European ban means fifth is no longer good enough for a Champions League place next season.

Chelsea are third but their fight for a top-four finish with Leicester and Manchester United is set to go to the wire. “It was one of our worst days of the season,” said Lampard (below), whose side face Norwich at home tomorrow. “I did not like the performance. We got what we deserved.

“I learned a lot about the players, and I will not forget that. But I feel a huge inquest is not needed because of where we are at. The games are coming quickly and we need it at the end of the season. I will analyse the game myself but the biggest thing for the players is to be positive and look to the next one.

“I know the feeling as a player, it was a horrible game for our players. None of them played well. I will not dwell on that this time and concentrate on the games ahead.”

Chelsea have conceded 49 goals this season, more than any other team in the top half.
