Fozzard up for Cup run

12 April 2012

Former St Helens prop Nick Fozzard hopes some of his old side's Carnegie Challenge Cup magic will rub off on his Hull KR team-mates.

The ex-Huddersfield, Warrington and Great Britain forward picked up two cup-winners medals during four trophy-laden years at Knowsley Road and does not see why he cannot taste success in the competition yet again.

"I've won it twice myself and been at Saints when they've won it another two times," he said. "In the last five years St Helens have only lost one game in the Challenge Cup. Hopefully I can enjoy some of that here."

Rovers begin their campaign on Friday night with a fourth-round tie at home to Super League bottom club Celtic Crusaders.

Fozzard said: "It gives us a bit of a break from Super League and it's for Wembley so we're all a bit excited about having a bit of a Cup run.

"It's all the players' dreams. The Aussies watch it back home and we all just want to play at Wembley. It's the first game of five towards winning it.

"Saints and Leeds are playing each other and hopefully another couple of big teams will go out so, if we can go through, we can have a good run."

The Crusaders have yet to defeat full-time opposition in the Cup and lost 48-18 to Rovers at Craven Park in Super League a fortnight ago.

Friday's game is one of five all-Super League ties which are set to produce an attendance bonanza following the decision of the top-flight clubs to offer free admission to season-ticket holders.
