Foy could be Harry's good omen in final

Whistle blower: Chris Foy was the fourth official during the 2008 FA Cup final
13 April 2012

Chris Foy has been named as referee for the Carling Cup Final between Manchester United and Tottenham on 1 March.

The Merseyside official (right) has been on the Select Group of referees since 2001 and was the fourth official when Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp won the FA Cup with his former club Portsmouth against Cardiff last season.

In October 2006, Foy apologised to Redknapp for awarding a penalty against Portsmouth for what looked like a dive by Tottenham midfielder Didier Zokora.

At the time, Foy said it was "the biggest decision I regret".

He added: "I told Harry Redknapp I was sorry afterwards when I saw the incident again and realised I was wrong."

Foy will be assisted at Wembley by Peter Kirkup and Andy Butler.
