Four star Lavilla on top

12 April 2012

Gregorio Lavilla made it four wins from as many races to take the second round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Thruxton.

The Airwaves Ducati rider took a comfortable race win first time out at the Hampshire circuit.

But the championship leader had to work to hold off reigning champion Ryuichi Kiyonari on the HM Plant Honda in race two.

Lavilla looked in control of race two after dealing with early leaders Shane Byrne, on the Stobart Honda, and Kiyonari's team-mate Jonathan Rea.

But Lavilla's progress was checked when a crash by James Buckingham meant the safety car had to be deployed.

Lavilla could not rediscover his early pace and was under pressure in the closing laps.

He admitted: "I lost my rhythm. It was frustrating for me.

"At Brands Hatch when it happened, I had something left, but here there was nothing and I had to try very hard to stay ahead.

"I was not able to go as fast, and they were slip-streaming me."
