Four sports were today added to the European Championships, which London is among the frontrunners to host in 2026.

The Munich event in 2022 has been taken up to nine sports, with climbing, canoe sprint, beach volleyball and table tennis all added.

The event will also host athletics, cycling and rowing, among others, as it increasingly becomes Europe’s version of the Olympics.

Standard Sport revealed last year that London was in pole position as the 2026 hosts.

The Olympic Park in Munich will be the primary host for the multi-sport European Championships, which will involve 4,400 athletes from 50 countries.
