Tottenham and F1 team up to unearth next star by building world first in-stadium race track

Tottenham are to build a state-of-the art go-kart track in the bowels of their stadium, after joining forces with Formula 1 in a bid to potentially unearth London’s next F1 star.

The venue, to be built under the stadium’s South Stand, will be the world’s first in-stadium electric karting facility and the longest indoor track in London when it opens later this year.

In addition, Tottenham and Formula 1 have formed a 15-year strategic partnership to develop a new driver academy programme to “help identify the next generation of F1 drivers”.

The aim is also to create apprenticeships and career opportunities for young people in order to bring greater diversity to the motorsport industry, which seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has most vocally been pushing for.

Tottenham have already brought other sporting ventures to their new stadium outside of football with high-profile boxing fights including Anthony Joshua and regular NFL games.

Their new in-house track will be accredited by the National Karting Association, thereby paving the way for Tottenham to host national karting championships in the future.

Announcing the partnership, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy said: “Since building this stadium, our ambition has always been to see how far we can push the boundaries in delivering world-class experiences that will attract people from around the world. We have been able to bring the biggest names in sport and entertainment to London N17.”

Meanwhile, Formula 1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali, speaking in the build-up to the opening F1 race of the 2023 in Bahrain, said: “As we continue to grow our sport, partnering with world-renowned brands like Tottenham Hotspur allows us to take Formula 1 and motorsport to new and more diverse audiences.

“Out two brands have a shared vision to create life-changing career opportunities, promote diversity and inclusion.”
