Dean Ashton says every West Ham fan would love to see Zlatan Ibrahimovic swap Paris Saint-Germain for the Hammers this summer, and believes the striker would be worth the gamble for the Premier League side.

Ibrahimovic is set to leave the French champions when his contract at PSG expires at the end of the current campaign, with the Sweden international confirming recently he has received interest from several top-flight clubs in England.

Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham have all been reported to be keen on recruiting the 34-year-old and, ahead of PSG's Champions League quarter-final first-leg against Manchester City, Laurent Blanc admitted that Ibrahimovic will decide the next step in his career in due course.

Despite the striker being 34, former West Ham forward Ashton is confident Ibrahimovic would have no problems hitting the ground running in England and says the Hammers should take a chance on trying to sign him in the coming months.

Speaking exclusively to 888sport, he said: "Any team that makes the Champions League suddenly has doors opened and the chance to attract big names and the attraction of playing in a new stadium as well would pull players in.

"They will have the money to spend and bolster the squad and then really have a go at the Champions League and it would be such a story if that happens especially with moving at the same time.

"I’m pretty sure every West Ham fan would love to see Ibrahimovic come to the Olympic Stadium. I know there have been rumours and what a signing he would be.

"He brings experience and flair, and he’s the type of player West Ham fans love who can produce something from nothing. He would be incredible."

He added: "Of course money is a factor with his age but it’s not as if you buy Ibrahimovic and he’s going to flop. He’s just not that type of player. He has already shown he doesn’t need lightning pace, he can just drop back and lead the play and he still scores so many goals.

"It would be worth a gamble in terms of wages to get him at any club and there will be five or six Premier League clubs trying to sign him in the summer."
