Zlatan Ibrahimovic is adamant that Jose Mourinho is the right man to lead Manchester United back into contention for major trophies, but refused to say whether he will link up with the 'Special One' at Old Trafford this summer.

Mourinho is believed to be edging closer to being confirmed as United's new manager, just days after the club relieved Louis van Gaal of his duties, despite the Dutchman winning the FA Cup at the weekend.

Mourinho has been out of work since being sacked by Chelsea in December but, apart from a disastrous six-month spell at the beginning of the season, the Portuguese coach has enjoyed much success in England.

The 53-year-old has won the top-flight title three times, the FA Cup once and the League Cup title three times too and United hope he will bring his winning mentality with him when his proposed move to the club eventually goes through.

Ibrahimovic, who played under Mourinho for one year at Inter Milan, believes the 53-year-old is the right man for the United job, but did not confirm whether he could also join the Red Devils this summer.

"He is the man to bring them back to the top," the striker said.

"I had a fantastic time working with him. If we will work again I don't know."

Ibrahimovic's next club remains a mystery, with the Sweden star having refused to so far confirm where he will be playing football next season after leaving Paris Saint-Germain this month.

United are one team that have been heavily linked with the 34-year-old in recent months, but Ibrahimovic would only reveal that he has already chosen his next destination.

"The future is written," he said. "I made my choice a long time ago. I just have to push the button.

Asked about a move to United, he responded: "Let's see what happens."

He added: "There is concrete offers from the Premier League. But I don't give guarantees."
