Zenit want Arshavin for keeps

Giuseppe Muro6 June 2012

Zenit St Petersburg today revealed that they are interesting in signing Andrey Arshavin on a permanent deal from Arsenal.

Arshavin made a temporary switch to Zenit in February after losing his regular first-team place at Emirates Stadium and scored three goals in nine starts for Luciano Spalletti’s side.

The 31-year-old will discuss his future with Arsene Wenger when he returns from Euro 2012 at the end of the summer and Zenit have already expressed their interest.

Chief executive Maxim Mitrofanov said: “Everything depends on Arshavin. If Andrey is ready to stay in the team and go on the field as a player, we are ready to discuss it.

“Arshavin is part of our club but, with all due respect to him, he will only stay in the event that he proves himself useful as an active player. Not as a man making up the numbers.”
