Charlton owner Roland Duchatelet today claimed he is ready to give the club away “for free”, as long as a new investor buys the land owned by the club.

Duchatelet has been trying to sell Charlton for more than a year without success.

His vow to offload the club for nothing comes ahead of a scheduled fans’ forum at The Valley on Wednesday night, when it is thought Duchatelet is planning to make the same offer to supporters.

Duchatelet will not be present at the forum and will be represented by Lieven De Turck, who has been negotiating for the Belgian in takeover talks.

“We give the club for free,” said Duchatelet, who claims he would want to sell The Valley and the club’s training ground. He added on talkSPORT: “The real estate and the land, that is what they have to pay to some extent.”

Duchatelet has criticised the EFL for letting him to buy Charlton in 2014 and claimed foreign owners should not be allowed to take over English clubs.

The Belgian had several of his properties in Belgium vandalised on Sunday, with graffiti and explicit messages.

Duchatelet said: “It has been a major mistake in my life. It is totally wrong that foreign people get involved in English football. The problem is the situation is just not healthy.

“I do not think foreign owners who have a lot of money should be involved in English football. They should leave me alone. I did not ask for this.”

Charlton are pushing for promotion from League One despite their off-field problems.
