'Yaya Toure likes football more than money' - Man City star rejected offer to follow Chelsea's Ramires to China

Yaya Toure has rejected multiple lucrative offers from China because the Manchester City midfielder "likes football more than money", according to his agent.

The Man City midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season and has been approached by clubs from the lucrative Chinese Super League.

Toure's future at City looked uncertain after being frozen out by Pep Guardiola after his representative, Dimitri Seluk, claimed the 33-year-old had been humiliated by his omission from City's Champions League squad.

The midfielder apologised in November and has produced a number of fine performances in the heart of City's side over the past two months.

Seluk has now confirmed to Sky Sports that Toure turned down a £520,000-a-week offer from Chinese club Jiangsu Suning during the January 2016 transfer window, in which they also signed Chelsea's Ramires for £25m.

And Toure's agent insists the midfielder wants to stay in Manchester despite more offers from China, saying: "Yaya plays on another level. He wants to play at the highest level.

"He’s happy at Manchester City. Yaya likes football more than money."

Ramires' former Chelsea team-mate Oscar has also since switched to the Chinese Super League, joining Shanghai SIPG for £60 this month, while Diego Costa's future remains uncertain as Tianjin Quanjian target an £80m move for the striker.

As his contract winds down, Toure is now entitled to speak to other clubs but he said earlier this month he would not.

He said: "No, I won't do that. My focus (is) on City, the future is there because for now the league is not finished."

Regarding the possibility of a new deal at City, Guardiola last week said of Toure and other out-of-contract players: "We are going to see at the end of the season."
