Hints: Yaya Toure says money alone would not make him stay at a club
Richard Parry21 April 2015

Yaya Toure has opened the door to a summer move from Manchester City, saying money will not be the motivating factor when he decides on his future.

The midfielder earns a basic wage of £200,000 a week and has two years left on his contract.

However, the 32-year-old has come in for criticism this season during City’s stuttering title defence.

That has led to speculation of a move to either Paris St Germain or Inter Milan, who are managed by his former City boss Roberto Mancini — a man he describes as “a mentor”.

Toure said: “No amount of wages will make me stay at a club if I feel that I no longer belong there or if no challenge exists for me. It would be unjust on my part. There comes a moment where numbers don’t stop unjust on my part. There comes a moment where numbers don’t stop us, it goes beyond that. For the future, I don’t know more than you do, because I will always go where I am offered new challenges. That is in my nature.

“When things are not going well at a club, the key players take the fall.”

Mancini was sacked by City two years ago and Toure (above) told Foot Mercato: “Mancini is a mentor for me. I loved the time when he was here, like I love playing for City today.”
