Yaya Toure has again hit back at criticism of his performances for Manchester City last season.
The 32-year-old recently spoke out in a fiery interview with L’Equipe, claiming he was "disgusted" with the British media for suggesting his standards slipped in 2014/15, when his side put in a meek defence of their Premier League title.
The Ivorian midfielder has subsequently claimed that he continued to contribute important goals to Manuel Pellegrini's side in a season interrupted by the Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.
Speaking to BT Sport’s Rio Ferdinand ahead of the Champions League clash with Sevilla, the Manchester City star hit out once again at criticism of his performances last term.
“I think people are being unfair about me last season,” said Toure. “People have their opinion, I have my opinion and you have your opinion. For me last season I achieved important things.”
“Best player in Africa, winner of Africa Cup of Nations, finished second in the Premier League. Yes, Man City are a team that people expect to win with all the money that has been spent.”
“But as a midfielder to score 12 goals and be away for 2 months away during the Premier League – I don’t want to say I will score more goals but people have to be realistic you know.”
Toure's haul of 12 in 37 games was half as many as he had scored in the previous title-winning campaign, when he was City's lead scorer ahead of Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko.
