Xabi Alonso makes plea over future

11 April 2012

Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso is calling for his future to be sorted out quickly.

Alonso has been linked with Real Madrid for most of the summer but the Spaniards have so far failed to meet Liverpool's asking £30million price.

Liverpool managing director Christian Purslow met Madrid executive director Jose Angel Sanchez in Barcelona yesterday to discuss Alonso, with the Reds in the city for a friendly against Espanyol.

Alonso, who has handed in a transfer request, said: "It's reassuring to know that Madrid and Liverpool are talking seriously now.

"I decided a long time ago to stay on the margin of everything happening. I'm a professional and I must wait for an agreement but I hope it is resolved soon, for better or for worse."
