Uruguay and France's World Cup 2018 quarter-final will be officiated by referee Nestor Pitana.

Pitana has overseen three matches at this summer's World Cup so far. He showed two yellow cards in Russia's 5-0 win over Saudi Arabia (the opening game of the tournament), five bookings in Sweden's 3-0 victory against Mexico, and a single yellow in Croatia's penalty shootout triumph over Demnark.

Pitana is a former actor and now teaches gymnastics; he began refereeing domestic games in 2007 having taken just three years to earn his Fifa listed status.

The Argentinian is recognised as one of South America's most experienced match officials, and is officiating in his second World Cup after he was selected four years ago in Rio.

The 42-year-old took charge of three group games, before being selected for the last-16 clash between Germany and France.

The Germans emerged victorious, winning 1-0 thanks to a first half goal from Mats Hummels.

Pitana had officiated 341 professional matches before the start of the 2018 finals, brandishing 1636 yellow cards, 107 red cards and awarding 77 penalties.
