Win or Chelsea's title hopes are over, says Andre Villas-Boas

Win or bust: Andre Villas-Boas knows the importance of Chelsea's game against Tottenham
11 April 2012

Andre Villas-Boas admits the pressure will be on Chelsea tonight because they must win if they are to have a hope of claiming the title.

Villas-Boas's side trail Manchester City and Manchester United by 12 and 10 points respectively and need a victory just to go above third-placed Tottenham, who have a game in hand.

Chelsea go into the match at White Hart Lane having failed to beat lowly Wigan on Saturday and Villas-Boas believes they can't make any more mistakes. He said: "The pressure is on us. We wanted to be closer to the League leaders. That's 100 per cent sure.

"Against Wigan wasn't dramatic but we have to show the same level of performance as we did in the wins against Wolves, Valencia and Newcastle."

When it was put to him that Chelsea can't afford to lose any more games, he replied: "At the moment, yes, that's the case. Manchester United the same, Tottenham the same."

Chelsea will be up against midfielder Luka Modric for the first time since they failed to sign him last summer. Villas-Boas is still a huge admirer of the Croat and said: "His form has been good. In the future, I don't know about [trying to sign] Modric. We're not looking at it at the moment. He's a creative player, one of the greatest talents in the world."

Chelsea were unbeaten at White Hart in the League between 1987 and 2006 but have not won there since that run ended.

Villas-Boas added: "It's one of the most difficult places to go in the Premier League."
