Manchester City and Wigan have been charged with failing to control their players following Fabian Delph's dismissal in Monday's FA Cup match, and the clubs have been asked for their observations on crowd trouble at the end of the game, the Football Association said.

A statement released by the FA on Twitter read: "Both Wigan Athletic and Manchester City have been charged for failing to control their players in relation to the dismissal of Fabian Delph during last night’s Emirates FA Cup fifth round tie.

"The clubs have until 6pm on Friday 23 February 2018 to respond.

"In addition, both clubs have been asked to provide their observations following the crowd trouble at the end of the game and have until Monday 26 February 2018 to respond."

Meanwhile, the Press Association reports that Sergio Aguero will face no disciplinary action from the FA for clashing with a Wigan supporter after full time.

The incident occurred on the pitch after the final whistle, when TV footage appeared to show the City striker raising his arm to push away a fan who had confronted him.

Wigan released a statement earlier on Tuesday from chief executive Jonathan Jackson, which read: "Whilst we appreciate that the vast majority of supporters who ran on to the pitch did so spontaneously to celebrate a famous victory, we were disappointed with the action of a minority of supporters who acted in an inappropriate manner. Player and staff safety is of paramount importance and we will conduct a full investigation.

"However, it is important to not let the actions of a few supporters detract from an incredible night at the DW Stadium. A special atmosphere was created by both sets of supporters and the match was yet another memorable day in the history of Wigan Athletic."
