Andy Carroll will have to wait until the end of the season before finding out whether he has a future at West Ham.

The 30-year-old striker’s six-year contract expires this summer and the club must decide whether to take up a two-year option.

Carroll, who scored a late goal, his first since April, in West Ham’s 2-0 FA Cup win over Birmingham, wants a new deal but the club and manager Manuel Pellegrini will take their time before making a decision.

Carroll has been plagued by injuries since he joined West Ham from Liverpool in 2013, the latest of which, an ankle problem, ruled him out for the first four months of this season.

Carroll was replaced at half-time of the recent 2-2 home draw and Pellegrini wants to see him stay fit for the remainder of the season.

A club source said: “The point of having an option is just that. Why decide until you have to?”

Carroll said: “I want to stay and I want a new deal but I can’t really think about that.

“I’ve just got to play my football when I get the chance. I’ve got to play a few more games and, like the manager says, I’ve got to impress him in the minutes he gives me.

“I was devastated to be brought off at half-time last week against Brighton and desperate to get a goal. I have been dreaming about that for a long time.”
