West Ham's summer influx not to blame for sorry start, says Aaron Cresswell

Aaron Cresswell has refused to blame the summer influx of nine players for West Ham’s disastrous start to the season.

The 1-0 home defeat by Wolves was West Ham’s fourth straight defeat in the Premier League, their worst start since 2011 when, managed by Avram Grant, they were relegated.

Cresswell believes the squad, boosted by nine players at a cost of almost £100million, has had more than enough time to gel.

“We’ve had a lot of time together, more than two months if you include pre-season,” said the full-back.

“There’s no hiding. Four defeats, 10 goals conceded — it’s just not good enough, simple as that. We have to get back now and stick together.”

After the international break, Manuel Pellegrini’s side face a daunting run of games with clashes against Chelsea and Manchester United following a trip to Goodison Park to face Everton.

"We knew before we started that we had a tough start, seven difficult games," Pellegrini said.

"I don't think it is a bad start, it is a very bad start. We didn't think we'd lose six points here at home. Here at home to lose we must be very worried.

"But I think everyone inside the club is calm. I think we have a strong squad and we are going to have better performances in the future. But of course, when you start with no points in four games it is difficult."
