West Ham duo Sam Allardyce and Diafra Sakho have scooped the Barclays manager and player of the month awards for October.

Boss Allardyce led his team to three consecutive victories last month, a run which has left the Hammers in fifth place in the Premier League.

The excellent string of results was in no small part down to Sakho, who scored a goal in each of the games he played in October, including a winner against champions Manchester City.

Sakho and Allardyce were clear winners of this month’s award, comfortably seeing off Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho and Manchester City’s in-form striker, Sergio Aguero.

The winners were chosen by the Barclays Panel, made up of former players, journalists and key football stakeholders.

West Ham will be confident of maintaining their unbeaten run, which stretches back to September, on Saturday when they meet an Aston Villa side who are coming off the back of six straight defeats.
