West Ham have "almost" completed a transfer for Marseille forward Dimitri Payet although the French club could yet table a new offer, according to the player's agent.
The Hammers are believed to be keen on signing the France international this summer as new manager Slaven Bilic looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
Payet is thought to be one of the players that Bilic has identified, and the West Ham boss has been boosted by Marseille president, Vincent Labrune's recent admission in which he confirmed departures from the club were expected.
And it now seems Bilic is closing in on a £12 million deal for Payet after the 28-year-old's agent, Jacques-Olivier Auguste, revealed a deal to take his client to the Boleyn Ground was close to being finalised.
"It's almost done, but not a 100 per cent," Auguste told Eurosport.
Payet's representative, however, admitted Marseille could yet try and convince the forward to stay at the Stade Velodrome with a new contract offer.
"We are still a little hopeful that Marseille can make something happen on their end," he added.
Payet had been offered an improved deal to remain at Marseille, but it is believed the Frenchman wants to move to the Premier League.
