David Moyes revealed that he sat down with Arthur Masuaku after his "despicable" sending off in their defeat at Wigan in the FA Cup on Saturday.

The full-back was given his marching orders in the second half after spitting in the direction of Latics midfielder Nick Powell.

Referee Chris Kavanagh was quick to brandish the red card after what seemed to be a completely fair and unaggressive challenge from Powell.

The 24-year-old has been slapped with a six-match ban by the Football Association and, with a lengthy injury list already in place, Moyes is now desperatly short.

“He was really remorseful, he said 'I've never done it before, never been sent off before' so he was really down about the whole thing and rightly so.

"So were because he's played well for us, a big part of the team and we are going to miss him in the coming weeks.
