David Sullivan demanded £100 million for West Ham’s talisman Dimitri Payet during the transfer window.

Jack Sullivan, son of the club’s co-owner, speaking on a radio station, said a club had asked about Payet but things went quiet after the £100m quote for the France star.

Sullivan had put a similar price tag on Payet, who was being monitored by Paris St Germain and Real Madrid, in July.

Payet cost West Ham £10.7m from Marseille a year ago.

Meanwhile, West Ham’s transfer deadline day signing, Alvaro Arbeloa, has said that a conversation with former Real team-mates Luka Modric and Mateo Kovacic convinced him to sign for the club.

Former Tottenham star Modric and fellow Croat Kovacic played under West Ham manager Slaven Bilic for the national team.

Former Spain right-back Arbeloa, 33, who has signed a one-year deal, said: “I talked with Luka and Mateo and they told me good things about the coach.

“I want to work with him and hopefully I can learn a lot of things.”
