West Ham are considering a move for Manchester City right-back Bacary Sagna next summer.

The former Arsenal defender’s contract expires at the end of the season and he could act as a short-term solution for a problem position at the London Stadium.

Slaven Bilic has experimented with several options throughout the season, with midfielder Cheikhou Kouyate the incumbent on the right flank.

Sam Byram and Alvaro Arbeloa have both struggled this season whilst Michail Antonio, now deployed in attacking areas, looked ill at ease in the position at the start of the campaign.

At 34, Sagna would only be a short-term fix for the Hammers, who bought Byram in January 2016 at least partly with an eye on the future. Since then the 23-year-old has struggled with injuries, making just nine appearances this season.

Sagna has yet to be offered a new deal by Manchester City and manager Pep Guardiola admitted last month that the ageing squad at the Etihad needed changing.

“At the end, the heart and soul of the team are the old players — the people who know the club. Of course the process is going to change but it cannot be possible to change that overnight.”
