West Ham captain Mark Noble dismisses Hull penalty controversy as Hammers pull clear of relegation zone

West Ham captain Mark Noble says he is unconcerned whether his wining penalty in this afternoon's 1-0 victory over Hull City was correctly awarded.

Slaven Bilic's side rode their luck against the Tigers, who hit the post on three separate occasions.

But it was the Hammers who came out on top in a frantic game after referee Craig Pawson ruled that Tom Huddlestone had fouled Michail Antonio.

Noble stepped up to slot home from the spot and is adamant securing all three points, albeit in controversial fashion, was all that mattered for the east Londoners.

“I haven’t seen the penalty so I don’t know whether it was or wasn’t but who cares?

“In the position we are in winning is all that matters. Results breed confidence and hopefully that is starting to happen," he told the BBC.

West Ham have now hauled themselves five points clear of the relegation zone while Hull drop to the bottom following Sunderland's slender victory over Watford.

The Hammers are not in action until Boxing Day and Noble is hopeful his team has turned a corner, having secured back-to-back victories on home turf.

“We have to win games and put the pressure on the other clubs. We have nine days now until our next game. Hopefully we can go away to Swansea and get more points.

“I would have snapped your hands off for seven points this week. We can look forward now.”

“Seven points in a week is massive for us. Two clean sheets at home is fantastic. They were not the best performances but these are the games that you have to win."
