Anderlecht manager Felice Mazzu apologised for the behaviour of the Belgian club’s fans during Thursday night’s Europa Conference League defeat at West Ham.

Away supporters clashed with police, lit flares and tore off seats from their section at London Stadium while there were also allegations of coins being thrown at home fans. One social media video showed a flare being thrown into the Hammers’ end, too.

After the match, which West Ham won 2-1, Mazzu said his club will work with Uefa to identify the culprits.

“We want to apologise to West Ham,” he said. “We don't tolerate this and strongly condemn this behaviour. We will take it up with Uefa and our own fans.”

West Ham manager David Moyes welcomed the apology after his side qualified for the knockouts.

“It's very good of the club to come out and say it - big credit to them,” Moyes told reporters.

“I think everybody's focus gets taken away when there's crowd trouble in some way. The players' job is to get on with it and I thought they did.

“We are in a different society, a different world now and it's not what any football club wants to have connected to them.”
