We have to be streetwise, says Jordan Henderson

11 April 2012

Jordan Henderson admitted England Under-21s were naive in defeat against Belgium last night but promised the side would learn from the experience.

Stuart Pearce's men were on track for a fifth consecutive European Championship qualifying victory after Martin Kelly's header put England ahead in the 14th minute.

But the hosts equalised with 18 minutes remaining before snatching the points with a last-minute winner by Omar El Kaddouri.

The surprise defeat should not derail England's best start to a qualification campaign since 1984, with home games against Belgium and Norway plus a trip to Azerbaijan to come but skipper Henderson is anxious that the team refocus.

"We have a lot of work to do and hopefully this will give us a wake-up call for the games ahead," he said.

"We are very disappointed. We felt we did well in the second half when we settled into the game and I had a chance to finish it but we are still top, in a good position and we need to win our last three games.

"The games are not easy but we came here to do a job and we didn't.

"We need to be more streetwise in the last minutes to not concede but we will come back stronger."
