Watford head coach Javi Gracia backed to turn things around after tough start

Under pressure: Javi Gracia's Watford have lost three out of three

Adrian Mariappa is backing Watford head coach Javi Gracia to turn things around after his side claimed their first win of the season.

Last season, the Hornets collected a record number of League points and reached the FA Cup Final under the Spaniard. They have struggled this term, however, losing their opening three games.

Gracia’s men stopped the rot with a 3-0 victory over Coventry in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night and when asked if Watford could come through their sticky patch and improve on last season’s best-ever finish, Mariappa said: “There is no reason why we can’t.

“No one wants to lose their first three games of the season but there are 38 games in a season.

“I don’t think we have had the rub of the green in the last few games. If we keep the performance levels up then I am sure it will turn.”

Club record signing Ismaila Sarr marked his first Watford start with the opening goal at Vicarage Road.
