Watford will be keeping their current club badge after holding a vote to see if fans wanted a change in design.

Working alongside project partner, Talenthouse, the Hornets offered supporters or followers the chance to design a crest to replace the current logo.

The opportunity was open globally to those who are at least 18 years of age or the age of majority in their jurisdiction of primary residence at the time of submission.

The entries were eventually whittled down to a shortlist and finally a choice between two designs was left.

Supporters had the chance to vote for a new badge, or stick with the current one, and it was the latter that won by a margin of around 60 to 40 per cent.

As such, there will be no change to Watford’s kit next year and the current badge will remain in place.

Spencer Field, the club’s Global Strategy & Partnerships Director, said: “The initiative has thrown up some opportunities for the club. In particular, we will be utilising one of the 4,000 designs for retail/merchandising purposes.

“Very few of you will have seen the relevant design, as it was never suitable as the club’s official badge, but we think it will modernise our fashion range and we look forward to unveiling it in 2020.”

Posting on their website, Watford added: “Again, we want to thank those of you who registered their vote(s) at any stage. We set out to make this as democratic, and open, a process as possible and in that regard we managed to capture the opinion of more than 25,000 Watford fans.

“As such, we hope that everyone felt like they had an opportunity to have their say on a topic that is close to all of our hearts.

“Feel free to get in touch with any thoughts regarding the badge – the more we know about your opinion, the more we can ensure that the club continues to make all of our fans proud.”
