Watford head coach Javi Gracia believes new signing Gerard Deulofeu could force his way into the Spain squad for the World Cup this summer.

Deulofeu last month moved to Vicarage Road on loan from Barcelona and he inspired Watford to a 4-1 win against Chelsea on Monday night.

The 23-year-old has not played for Spain since a World Cup qualifier in Liechtenstein last September but Gracia feels he could earn a call-up if he is playing well for Watford. “He is a very good player,” said Gracia, who takes his side to West Ham tomorrow.

“I do not know in the future what will happen. I want to focus on him playing well for Watford.

“Maybe in the summer the national team will call him, who knows?”

Deulofeu was linked with a move to West Ham before he joined Watford on loan.

He scored against Chelsea to cap a man-of-the-match display at Vicarage Road and has also been praised by team-mate Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Doucoure said: “We are happy to have him in the squad and hopefully he will play like he did against Chelsea every weekend.”

Watford look to have turned a corner with their win over Chelsea and Daryl Janmaat wants them to build on the result when they play West Ham.

Janmaat said: “It gives us confidence. Now we have four really important points from the past two games and we will try to get some points at West Ham as well.”
