Watford star Andre Gray grateful for break from Premier League woe

Watford have lost nine of their past 13 matches in the Premier League but Andre Gray believes the FA Cup could offer them some respite.

The Hornets have managed just three wins since Ronald Koeman was sacked at Everton in October and Marco Silva became their first choice.

Watford face Bristol City in the FA Cup at Vicarage Road tomorrow and Gray said: “It will help confidence for everyone if we win at home and we need that.

“It is a big cup at the end of the day and, if you can get a cup run going, more wins breed more confidence throughout the team. It is a good place to start a positive run.”

Watford know they face a tough test against a Bristol City side who beat them on their way to reaching the semi-finals of the League Cup under manager Lee Johnson.

Gray, 26, who has scored three goals this season, added: “It is one of those games where they are flying high in the Championship, so it is going to be a difficult match.

“We know full well what the FA Cup is like and we could have been playing a League Two team and it would still be difficult. It is all about mentality and I am sure that we will have the right one.

“Hopefully it will also give the fans a confidence boost, we need them in situations like this.”
