William Gallas was not known for his goal-scoring prowess during his eventful 12 years in the Premier League.

But the 36 year-old French defender wowed football fans in New Zealand as he opened his account for A-league side Perth Glory.

Gallas, who made over 300 appearances in the Premier League, marauded forward in the away match against Wellington Phoenix and beat the opposition goalkeeper with a delightfully-curled shot. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.

The former Gunners skipper spoke this week to L'Equipe about his decision to move down under.

''I'm going on 37 years, I am not immortal,'' said Gallas.

''It was important for me to leave the high level at the right time. I do not think I could have done one more season in England. Today, what interests me is to play ball.''
