Vincent Kompany calls for the spirit of St James’ Park

13 December 2012

Vincent Kompany wants Manchester City to be inspired by their return to St James’ Park on Saturday as they bid to get their title challenge back on track.

City go to Newcastle six points behind Premier League leaders Manchester United following their 3-2 defeat to the Reds last Sunday, when Robin van Persie hit a a 90th‑minute winner.

Last April, City won 2-0 at St James’ Park in their penultimate match of the season as they went on to clinch their first top-flight title in 44 years.

City captain Kompany said: “That game at Newcastle last season has gone a bit unnoticed but it was one of the best we’ve played as a unit. Maybe we need to keep that in mind when we go there on Saturday.”
