Vincent Janssen believes he has found his salvation in Fenerbahce after his disastrous season at Tottenham.

The Dutch international striker failed to live up to expectations at White Hart Lane after joining from AZ Alkmaar, scoring only two goals in the Premier League and struggling to either displace or fit in alongside Harry Kane.

Janssen subsequently joined Fenerbahce on loan, where he is displaying the kind of form that convinced Spurs to part with £20m to get their man.

Saturday’s Istanbul derby saw Janssen win two penalties, scoring the second, in a fiery encounter that saw five players sent off. The 23-year-old has no regrets over his move to Turkey.

“My transfer to Fenerbahce has been a kind of salvation,” Janssen told reporters.

“If you get this opportunity, you’re grateful to the people [who gave it to you]. It’s nice to get minutes here and you’ll take that chance with both hands.”

He added: “I really enjoyed my first Istanbul derby. The atmosphere was fantastic with the passion of the supporters.

“I have never experienced anything like this before. A lot happened in the game… five red cards in particular.”

Janssen has two goals and as many assists in his three Super Lig appearances so far this season.
