Usain Bolt insists his false start at the last World Championships in Daegu will be far from his mind when he returns to the blocks for the worlds in Moscow.

The fastest man on the planet was disqualified for his premature start in the 100metres final two years ago under new guidelines by the IAAF.

But looking ahead to the championships, which start a week on Friday, he said: “I don’t think about it anymore. At the time, it was very disappointing because I was in great shape and I knew that, if I had started and run well, I would have got a gold medal.

“But that’s behind me now, I learned from it and moved on. Right now, I’m only focusing on Moscow and preparing well for that.”

Bolt has struggled for his best form this season but, despite a sluggish start to the 100m at the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games at the weekend, won the event at a canter in 9.85sec.

However, he said his hopes of breaking his world record of 9.58s imminently were dependent on a number of factors. “It would require a technically almost perfect race and for the weather conditions to be good,” he said. “But I’m focused on getting myself ready in a physical condition where I’m capable of doing it.”

Ahead of his appearance in Moscow, Bolt has featured in a Puma advert taking Russian lessons. “It’s not an easy language,” said the sprinter. “It’s different to the way we speak in Jamaica, that’s for sure.”
